DR. ROBERT J. CAMERON: "THE BLACK CHURCH: A CALL TO REFORMATION" (ENCORE PRESENTATION)

DR. ROBERT J. CAMERON, pastor of Mount Carmel Church (OPC), Somerset, NJ, will address: "THE BLACK CHURCH: A CALL TO REFORMATION".

During this very controversial discussion, Dr. Cameron will demonstrate that the Black church at large is heavily permeated by matriarchal leadership, a social gospel and heretical theology, and will challenge his African-American brothers and sisters in Christ to reevaluate their current positions and to become transformed according to the Scriptures.

Dr. Cameron is author of The Last Pew on the Left: America's Lost Potential. The title of Dr. Cameron’s book reflects upon his experiences as an African-American growing up in the Roman Catholic Church in the South, where his family had to sit in the last pew on the left. That insured they were the last ones to receive the chalice of the Mass (after all the white parishioners had partaken). Since then Bob has experienced racism in the military, industry and even running his own trucking business.

After he was converted to Christ in the early 70s (at more than 40 years of age), he was surprised to find the same problem in just about every church—black or white. He sold his business and used the profits to finance his seminary education. After seminary he was the founding pastor of Mt. Carmel Church in Somerset, NJ, which is now and always has been integrated—first as a Reformed Episcopal and later as a Presbyterian fellowship. Dr. Cameron also sits on the Board of Greenville Theological Seminary, and is part of the faculty at the New York School of the Bible.

MARK MICHAEL ZIMA, author of "Mother Teresa: The Case For the Cause: Is Mother Teresa of Calcuta a Saint?" , will address his "OPEN LETTER TO POPE BENEDICT XVI REGARDING THE CAUSE FOR CANONIZATION OF MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA."

Although Mark Michael Zima is a Traditionalist Catholic in good standing, his controversial views regarding Mother Teresa of Calcutta, a beloved, modern-day hero of countless millions globally spanning denominations and world religions, surely puts him at odds with the vast majority of professing Catholics worldwide. He is a former religious brother of two missionary communities: the Brothers of Our Lady of Reconciliation and the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. He has devoted much of his life to theological and philosophical studies as well as the evangelism of Catholicism. He has studied at the Dietrich von Hildebrand Institute in Gradone, Italy. He has also has a comprehensive education in other branches of Christian theology. He has taught Sacred Scripture, as well as RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) and has been a Catholic youth director at a parish in Oregon. He has been associated with many different Catholic organizations. He has worked to found Catholic monasteries with Catholic priests.

Mr. Zima has written to Cardinal Ratzinger before he became Pope Benedict XVI (An Open Letter and Request to Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger), and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, to address the theological problems in the Church. He has met and dialogued with bishops of the western and eastern rites. Today we will discuss Mr. Zima's recent open letter to Pope Benedict XVI calling into question Mother Teresa's eligibility for Canonization.

PETER FEUERHERD, the Editor of "American Catholic" and a widely respected Catholic journalist, and PETE SHEEHAN, Senior Reporter for "The Long Island Catholic" newspaper, will address the theme of Feuerherd's book "HOLYLAND U.S.A.: A Catholic Ride Through America's Evangelical Landscape," winner of five Catholic Press Awards.

As the host of "Iron Sharpens Iron", and as an Evangelical from the Reformed Baptist tradition, I believe it is very healthy and valuable to hear how those outside of Evangelical Christianity view the faith demonstrated by those who do profess to be heirs of the Protestant Reformation today. During this broadcast we will get a glimpse of Evangelicalism as seen through the lens of two Roman Catholic ecumenists.

"A little more than 40 years ago, many Protestants in the U.S. thought that a Catholic in the White House was a sign of the Apocalypse. Now, Catholics and Protestants often find themselves on the same side of political and social battle lines. 'The barriers are breaking down,' writes award-winning religion journalist Feuerherd, a self-described 'liberal New Yorker' who investigates the evangelical Protestant movement in the U.S. Feuerherd begins his exploration at the Holy Land theme park in Orlando, Fla., which boasts a replica of the ancient city of Jerusalem and tour guides who proselytize visitors. During this discussion, an attempt will be made to contrast the ecumenism of the two Catholic guests with the non-ecumenical stance the host of this program takes regarding relations between Evangelicals and Roman Catholics in matters of spirituality, evangelism and worship.

Hello Chris,

I was pleased to find that you have a radio program on WNYG. I never listen to that, as most Christian stations these days lean towards theological teaching that I am not interested in.

The way I found your program was that, on a whim I was searching for Joel Nederhood. I used to get up early to watch Faith 20 and listen to the Back to God Hour on a regular basis. It was very instrumental in my faith as I left the Roman Catholic Church. I listened to the MP3 of the show with Nederhood that you did recently. I enjoyed it very much.

I did not go the reformed route, I went the Lutheran route (Missouri Synod) which I found to be faithful to the scriptures and Christ centered as well. (Although I respected reformed teachers on Family Radio [until Camping started losing his mind] and others like RC Sproul, Nederhood, Kennedy, Boice, etc) I am currently working full time at a Lutheran church as it's youth minister.

I attended those old debates with the Rev White and others that you ran back in the day. Are there any more of these? In this post- modern age, I find that the theological issues are not as big to people as is one's personal expression of faith and faith story.

He has no immediate plans for a Long Island debate, but is frequently traveling elsewhere to debate, lecture and preach. Please pray that I will be able to find a debating opponent for Dr. White representing Roman Catholicism or one of the major cults who is prominent enough in his church or cult to warrant Dr. White's traveling to Long Island amid his already busy schedule.

GARY DeMAR, a theologically Reformed Christian apologist well known for his adherence to Postmillennialism, Theonomy and Christian Reconstruction, highly sought-after conference speaker, President of American Vision , Editor of the monthly magazine "Biblical Worldview," host of "The Gary DeMar Show" and author of over 23 books on a wide range of issues will address the very timely and controversial theme: "SHOULD WOMEN EVER LEAD OUR NATION (And Should Christians Ever Vote For Them)?"

The above question has been the focus of much debate as of late due to the nomination of America's very first Republican candidate for Vice President, and stark differences of opinion exist even among the most conservative, fundamentalist and theologically Reformed Christians. Heated discussions over this issue have arisen between Christians who may even regularly sit near each other in the same pew every Sunday. We have featured guests on "Iron Sharpens Iron" on both sides of this debate.

According to today's guest, Gary DeMar, "There is concern and reservations over the candidacy of Sarah Palin as a vice-presidential candidate, and not all of it is coming from the political left. A number of Christians have expressed their disapproval of a woman holding political office. The most articulate biblical appraisal has been written by William Einwechter. At first reading, there is little I can disagree with, but I believe he has left out some important points of consideration..."

...Let’s begin with the obvious. If Sarah Palin were a man, conservatives everywhere would be rejoicing. It’s not her conservative policies her critics object to but the fact that she’s a woman, and the Bible prohibits women from holding civil office. This is the essence of the biblical argument against her. I’m not sure an iron-clad case can be made for the prohibition of women holding civil posts of authority in all circumstances..." Much of Gary DeMar's writing and public speaking ministry addresses his strong conviction that America was founded as a Christian nation and he debates this topic frequently.

JOHN LEUZARDER: "GOD SENT A BLIZZARD TO MELT COLD HEARTS"

JOHN LEUZARDER, a survivor of cancer and author of "The Gospel For Children", will give his and his wife Sue's personal testimony of being saved by the grace of a loving, merciful and sovereign Christ: "GOD SENT A BLIZZARD TO MELT COLD HEARTS".


In 1976 John Leuzarder was laid off from his job where he worked and traveled extensively in a sales engineering position for over a 10-year period. Seeing an opportunity, he partnered with another salesman to form Advanced Environmental Technology Corp. (AETC) to deal with the emerging environmental problems associated with improperly managed hazardous chemicals and waste. Their company grew through a diversity of services including training, safety audits, packaging services, trucking, BTU recovery from waste solvents, acid neutralization, and chemical emergency response. In time they became nationally recognized for their expertise in the transport and on-site detonation of explosive and other dangerous highly reactive chemicals. AETC developed an array of remote control robotic devices for this purpose, the likeness of which are used by our military today. With wide acceptance from the emerging regulatory authorities AETC grew rapidly. – An average of 160% per year for the first 12 years. AETC reached $40 million in annual sales by 1987. Profitability during these years grew to 21% before taxes.

As AETC sales continued to grow, John Leuzarder and his business partner were able to diversify into a highly specialized trucking company, an insurance business (initially formed to capture commissions on their huge insurance premiums), real estate holdings to regionalize their growth into key market areas, and to satisfy John's partner’s personal interest, a jewelry business in Morristown.

All of John's dreams were becoming realities! He sat on a very prestigious committee of the American Chemical Society in Washington DC with 11 of the top research chemists in the US (MIT, Dupont etc.). He and his partner lectured in major universities across America, and developed a course on Chemical Compatibility and Safety for J.T. Baker Chemical Co. which John had the privilege of teaching in 26 states.

On the outside John appeared to be realizing the “Great American Dream”, but on the inside he was growing in anxiety, emptiness and even a sense of fear and despair. He found none of the peace and happiness that he expected, despite all he had accomplished. A temporary sense of happiness came only with the next big contract, exciting vacation, new car or learning to fly. Soon after acquiring these things, “the fix” was gone.

Although John didn’t realize it at the time, God was showing him that some of the things he had been taught as a child were not true, and that happiness and peace don’t come through hard work, acquiring goods, social prestige, or even reaching personal goals. Later as a 43 year old businessman at the top of his game, John grew more and more distressed by the emptiness of his life, the promise of happiness eluded him, and even more frightening was that now there seemed to be no way to get off the treadmill that he was on. He had become a slave to his businesses and possessions.

Despite wealth and prestige the burden on John's conscience was getting worse-not better. His marriage to his wife Sue was faltering and all hope of peace and happiness was slipping away. He tried his best to deny spiritual things, but he couldn’t shake off the idea from his Catholic upbringing, that hell loomed ahead of him. He had a terrible time facing the prospect of his eventual death.

Then in Dec 1986 John and Sue Leuzarder's lives were changed forever. Employees who had been praying for them presented them with Bibles- their first! A couple of weeks later at their annual New Years Eve party, 2 dear friends we’re providentially snowed in with John and Sue, and in the early morning hours began to talk to them about spiritual things. Listen to today's interview and discover how this blizzard was an instrument in the hand of a Sovereign God to lead John and Sue Leuzarder to a repentant faith in Jesus Christ.

Retiring on the proceeds of the sale of his businesses, John and his wife Sue were able to be involved in a number of faith based pro-life and pro-family organizations including Focus on the Family , The Family Research Council , Northwest Christian School , The Alliance Defense Fund and Today’s Choice Pregnancy Center. The Leuzarders also build interior and outdoor furniture and signs and serve on the Board of Camp of the Woods, in Speculator, NY which is now in its 107 year of Christian Ministry. John has also had the privilege of writing a book entitled “The Gospel for Children”, now in its 4 printing and 3 languages.

Here's an early ISI broadcast that was recorded before we began archiving the show. The recording isn't of the same superior sound quality, but it is audible nonetheless.

The topic of this broadcast was "Federal Vision" theology. It was supposed to be a debate between John Otis and Steve Schlissel. Unfortunately, Steve Schlissel (arguing for Federal Vision theology) was delayed in New York traffic, and arrived for the broadcast at least a half hour late. This gave John Otis an opportunity to outline Federal Vision theology and explain its dangers. Once Steve showed up, the discussion quickly took off.

John Otis explains,

"On the live radio show, 'Iron Sharpening Iron', originating out of New York City, I was scheduled to debate Federal Vision representative Steve Schlissel on various theological issues associated with this viewpoint that I believe to be heretical. Both of us had been on the radio show earlier on separate occasions. There will be a second debate since he was late arriving to this show."

This neglecting of the third person of the Godhead at times manifests itself in dull and listless worship services, an impatient and unforgiving spirit, an expressed hatred of the lost, an unenthusiastic evangelism and an apparent boredom with the awesome, amazing, exciting and profound truths of Scripture. This lackluster living should never be found among a people, namely the theologically Reformed, whose belief system acknowledges the vital role of God the Spirit in the resurrection of dead souls unto new life in Christ, and in the preservation and perseverance of those who are born from above in their faithfulness to their Lord and Savior. There is a palpable irony in the tragic reality that the neglecting of the Holy Spirit is *not* a rare sin among doctrinally solid Calvinists.

During this interview, Ken will focus on his own spiritual journey that led him to write "History Is Not Enough!" Raised in the Catholic Church, Ken thirsted for God. He spent 16 years in the Jehovah’s Witnesses and after months of spiritual struggle, Ken found Jesus Christ as his Savior. Baptized in the First Baptist Church of Van Nuys, California and later ordained to the ministry, he began a ministry to evangelize other religions and cults. In 1978, the Guindon family moved to France where he served as a missionary with the Torchbearer Fellowship and later with Baptist Mid-Missions. Ken trained catechists in Mexico and he spoke and wrote programming for Spanish language radio in the Los Angeles area.

After approximately 13 years of being very actively involved in Independent, Fundamentalist, Landmark Baptist circles, Ken became disillusioned particularly with their Dispensationalism, which he could not justify biblically, and returned to the Roman Catholic Faith. On June 19, 1998, while working for EWTN (the Eternal Word Television Network), which is the largest Roman Catholic television network, Ken was interviewed by Marcus Grodi on the well-known Roman Catholic television program"The Journey Home", produced by The Coming Home Network International, which regularly features interviews with individuals who have left Protestantism, the cults or world religions and converted to Catholicism (or returned to it). Ken's interview is, remarkably, still available on Marcus Grodi's web site.

After approximately 11 years in the Roman communion Ken entered Eastern Orthodoxy, where he remained for approximately 7 years before finally returning to Evangelical Christianity at the age of 65, and now professes to be a baptistic Calvinist.

Ken fully realizes that due to his history of apparent instability in his theological experience he is vulnerable to the charge of not heeding the admonishment of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:14: "...we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming", but believes every path he has taken was motivated by a genuine, sincere desire to honor, obey and serve God rightly. He now realizes his greatest error was searching for "The One True Church", rather than seeking out fellow believers in the One True Gospel.
