LATAYNE C. SCOTT: The Mormon-Freemason Connection... Plus a review of Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol'

.
MP3 Available Here

Latayne C. Scott, a Mormon convert to Evangelical Christianity, author of 13 published books, Chair of the Department of Biblical Representational Research and Author in Residence at Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, NM and the recipient of the Distinguished Christian Service Award by Pepperdine University for "Creative Christian Writing", will address the theme: "The Mormon-Freemason Connection... Plus a review of Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol'".

What is the connection between Masonry as depicted in the Lost Symbol, and Mormonism?... What is the connection between Mormon doctrines and The Lost Symbol?... Did Joseph Smith have a connection with the occult?... Was Joseph Smith a Mason?... Were LDS leaders other than Joseph Smith involved in Masonry?... Did Joseph Smith have a connection with Masonry at the time of his death? Or was that just earlier in his life? What does Latayne C. Scott's novel
THE LATTER DAY CIPHER show about the connection of Masonry to Mormonism?... These are just some of the questions we will address today during our interview with Latayne C. Scott.
Much of today's discussion will be drawn from "
Is There No Help For The Widow's Son?: An Underground Presidential Address" by Mervin B. Hogan.

Latayne is most well known for her classic work
THE MORMON MIRAGE: A Former Member Looks at the Church Today now in its Third Edition. In the first edition of The Mormon Mirage, Latayne C. Scott shared her remarkable journey out of Mormonism as she uncovered shocking inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions in the faith she had loved and lived. Thirty years later, Mormonism and Mormon scholarship have evolved with the times. In her third, revised and updated edition of her well-known book, Scott keeps pace with changes and advances in Mormonism, and reveals formidable new challenges to its claims and teachings. The Mormon Mirage provides fascinating, carefully documented insights into • DNA research’s withering implications for the Book of Mormon • the impact of new “revelations” on Latter-day Saint (LDS) race relations • new findings about Mormon history • increasing publicity about LDS splinter groups, particularly polygamous ones • recent disavowals of long-held doctrines by church leadership • the rise of Mormon apologetics on the Internet.

BILL McKEEVER: IS IT TIME TO EMBRACE THE LDS CHURCH AS CHRISTIAN?: Looking at Mormonism through a 21st century lens

.
MP3 Available Here

BILL McKEEVER, founder of Mormonism Research Ministry , will address the theme: "IS IT TIME TO EMBRACE THE LDS CHURCH AS CHRISTIAN?: Looking at Mormonism through a 21st century lens".

In 1997, InterVarsity Press published a controversial book by an Evangelical, Craig L. Blomberg, and a Mormon, Stephen E. Robinson, titled "
How Wide the Divide? A Mormon & An Evangelical in Conversation". Many Christian apologists, while encouraging healthy and honest dialogue between Evangelicals and Mormons, criticized this work believing that it softened and blurred many huge, cavernous differences that exist between these two religions which are as different as night and day. There are, to the amazement of many conservative, Christian apologists, a growing number of professing Evangelicals who are seeking a much greater degree of unity between Christians and Mormons, but is it time to embrace the LDS Church as Christian?

Bill will address that question on today's broadcast, and also at the "
Compassionate Boldness" conference in Draper, Utah May 29th & 30th, where he will be one of twelve speakers. Bill founded Mormonism Research Ministry, based in the Salt Lake City, Utah area, in 1979. His interest in Mormonism began when his Mormon friends attempted to proselytize him into the LDS faith shortly after his conversion to Christianity in 1973 . The more he discussed spiritual issues with his LDS friends, the more concerned for them he became. Bill is the author of "Answering Mormons’ Questions", co-author of "Mormonism 101" and compiler for the newly released "In Their Own Words: A Collection of Mormon Quotations." He is also the editor of MRM’s newsletter, Mormonism Researched, occasional contributor to MRM’s blog site, Mormon Coffee and a contributing writer to "The Christian Research Journal". Bill and his wife Tamar have three grown children.

SANDRA TANNER: THE CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY of BRIGHAM YOUNG's GREAT-GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER

.
MP3 Available Here

SANDRA TANNER, co-founder with her late husband Jerald of Utah Lighthouse Ministry , will address: "THE CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY of BRIGHAM YOUNG's GREAT-GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER".

As Sandra begins her testimony of conversion from Mormonism to Biblical Christianity:

"Since I was born and raised in the Mormon church, and am a great-great-grandchild of Brigham Young, I had very strong ties to the Mormon faith. I was about seventeen before I ever attended another church. As a teenager my life centered around the Mormon church. Because I was active and paying my tithing I thought I was in pretty good standing with God. I knew I sinned but I felt my activity in church would somehow outweigh what I did wrong. I believed (as the Mormons teach) that I was inherently good. I had no fear of God's judgment. Besides the things that were wrong in my own life, I began to have doubts about my church. Could it really be the only true church? Was polygamy really right? Why couldn't the Negro hold the priesthood? Was temple marriage really so important? Why were its rites kept such a secret? Did God actually command Mormons to wear special under-garments? I had many questions going through my mind..."

Today we will hear how Sandra learned the answers to those vital questions, and how she discovered the mercy and grace of the true Jesus Christ of the Bible. We will also be promoting a conference to be held May 29-30 in Draper, Utah, featuring Sandra Tanner and eleven other speakers, in an effort to equip Christians to engage the Mormon culture with "
COMPASSIONATE BOLDNESS".

LATAYNE C. SCOTT: MORMONISM's FIRST BLACK AFRICAN GENERAL AUTHORITY: Can a Cult Overcome its Racist Skeletons?

.

LATAYNE C. SCOTT, a Mormon convert to Evangelical Christianity, author of 13 published books, Chair of the Department of Biblical Representational Research and Author in Residence at Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, NM and the recipient of the Distinguished Christian Service Award by Pepperdine University for "Creative Christian Writing", will address the theme: "MORMONISM's FIRST BLACK AFRICAN GENERAL AUTHORITY: Can a Cult Overcome its Racist Skeletons?"

Joseph Sitati, a "Mormon superstar" in Kenya, has just been very recently appointed to the "First Quorum of Seventy". He is the first black African to join that body, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's second most important tier of leaders (read the entire Salt Lake Tribune article here). Although, on the surface, it is always refreshing to hear the news of any organization shedding racist beliefs and practices, can the Mormons consistently and logically do so while still believing that their church's founders, who taught racist tenets as the infallible commandments of God, were prophets? Also, is this news something genuine Christians should rejoice over knowing that this development can become an attractive lure to blacks worldwide to join the Mormon cult? These are just two questions to be addressed during this broadcast featuring Latayne Scott.

Latayne also announces that the third edition of her classic work
THE MORMON MIRAGE: A Former Member Looks at the Church Today is NOW IN PRINT!!! In the first edition of The Mormon Mirage, Latayne C. Scott shared her remarkable journey out of Mormonism as she uncovered shocking inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and contradictions in the faith she had loved and lived. As the publishers very aptly put it, "More than a riveting, insider’s scrutiny of the Mormon faith, this book is a testimony to the trustworthiness of Scripture and the grace of Jesus Christ."

Latayne also announces that her first novel, a murder mystery which takes place in Salt Lake City, UT, titled
THE LATTER DAY CIPHER , is also hot off the press!!!

Chris Arnzen did the narration for this video trailer for Latayne C. Scott's book, Latter-day Cipher(Moody, 2009).

When rebellious Utah socialite Kirsten Young is found murdered in Provo Canyon with strange markings carved into her flesh and a note written in a 19th Century code, questions arise about the old laws of the Mormon Church. Journalist Selonnah Zee is assigned the story—which quickly takes on a life of its own. Even before the first murder is solved several more victims appear, each one more mysterious than the last.

Adding to a slew of other distractions, Selonnah’s cousin, Roger, has recently converted and is now a public spokesperson for the Mormon faith. But paradoxically, Roger's wife Eliza is struggling to hold onto the Mormon beliefs of her childhood. If something is really from God, she wonders, why does it need to be constantly revised? And could the murderer be asking the same questions?

About the Author: Latayne C. Scott is a former Mormon and the author of 12 books including the best-selling The Mormon Mirage. Latayne has been a frequent speaker on national radio and television programs and in seminar settings all over North America. She has been honored by Pepperdine University with its “Distinguished Christian Service Award for Creative Christian Writing.”

LATAYNE C. SCOTT: MORMONISM IN THE 21st CENTURY: The Mormon Mirage Takes on New Forms

.

LATAYNE C. SCOTT, a Mormon convert to Evangelical Christianity, author of 13 published books, Chair of the Department of Biblical Representational Research and Author in Residence at Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, NM and the recipient of the Distinguished Christian Service Award by Pepperdine University for "Creative Christian Writing", will address the theme: "MORMONISM IN THE 21st CENTURY: The Mormon Mirage Takes on New Forms".

The rapidly growing popularity and dependence upon the Internet, the highly-televised public scandals of Fundamentalist polygamist Mormons, and other issues facing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have forced the Mormons to continue rethinking their public image and methods of evangelism. Today, Latayne C. Scott will address the ever-changing face of Mormonism and will also discuss the contents of her soon-to-be-reprinted classic THE MORMON MIRAGE: A Former Member Looks at the Church Today.

Latayne also recently completed writing her first novel, a murder mystery which takes place in Salt Lake City, UT, titled THE LATTER DAY CIPHER . Both books are expected to be in print by April of 2009.

BRIAN MACKERT: "ILLEGITIMATE: HOW A LOVING GOD RESCUED A SON OF POLYGAMY"

MP3 Available Here

BRIAN MACKERT, born and raised in a polygamist Mormon cult and later saved by the grace of Jesus Christ, will address his testimony, found in his new book, "ILLEGITIMATE: HOW A LOVING GOD RESCUED A SON OF POLYGAMY".

The recent events at a Fundamentalist Mormon compound in Texas have ignited a national dialogue on religious sects. Formed as a splinter group of the LDS ("Latter Day Saints") church, these secretive cults exist in an insular world far removed from mainstream American culture. A world of abuse and twisted theology that seems too bizarre to be true. Yet for Brian J. Mackert, life inside this sect was all too real. As a son in a family of one father, four wives, and 31 children, Brian experienced firsthand the devastating realities of polygamous cults. Now Brian tells his remarkable story of tragedy and healing. "Illegitimate" takes readers behind today's shocking headlines and inside the walls of this controversial sect. Brian reveals a world of loving mothers and abusive fathers, devoted children and sibling rivalry, deceptive religion and the truth eventually found in Christ-outside the walls of the FLDS ("Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints").

Ultimately, "Illegitimate" demonstrates the incredible love of God, and His ability to bring light into the darkest of places.Today Brian is a licensed Baptist minister.

WILLIAM NORMAN GRIGG: "FUNDAMENTALIST MORMONISM EXAMINED"

MP3 Available Here

WILLIAM NORMAN GRIGG, former Mormon High Priest who converted to Evangelical Christianity, former Senior Editor of The New American magazine and the author of such controversial books as Freedom On The Altar: The UN's Crusade Against God & Family , Global Gun Grab: The UN's Campaign to Disarm Americans and The Gospel of Revolt: Feminism vs. the Family will address the theme: "FUNDAMENTALIST MORMONISM EXAMINED."

The media has been providing daily updates on the YFZ Ranch (Yearning For Zion Ranch), a 1,700-acre compound just outside of Eldorado, Texas, owned by the infamous polygamist cult known as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, ever since the compound was raided by law enforcement officers on Thursday, April 3rd, following allegations of a 16-year-old girl being forced into a marriage with a 50-year-old man, Dale Evans Barlow. As of April 8, approximately 117 women and 416 children had been removed from the compound by authorities and are in state custody.

Today, William Norman Grigg will provide the historic background of this Fundamentalist Mormon cult and describe its doctrines and practices, and will also address the question of which group the so-called 19th century Mormon prophets Joseph Smith and Brigham Young would most likely be members of if they were alive today: the polygamist FLDS Church or the "official", non-polygamist LDS Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.

CAROLE WHANG SCHUTTER: "SEPTEMBER DAWN"

MP3 Available Here

CAROLE WHANG SCHUTTER, the Evangelical Christian author of the screenplay for the critically acclaimed, extremely controversial motion picture "SEPTEMBER DAWN", starring Academy Award winning actor Jon Voight, and the novel of the same title (see this link for more details).

My co-host for this interview will be LATAYNE C. SCOTT, a Mormon convert to Evangelical Christianity and author of The Mormon Mirage (see http://www.latayne.com/). The film "SEPTEMBER DAWN" is based on the truly historical event known as "The Mountain Meadows Massacre", a horrific event in our nation's history which, ironically, occurred on September 11th, 1857, involving the brutal murder of 120 men, women and children by a Mormon militia. These innocent victims were emigrants, mostly from Arkansas, traveling to California who had the misfortune of passing through the Utah territory during the infamous "Utah War" between Mormon settlers and the United States federal government. These Mormon assassins only spared the lives of 17 of the youngest children.

To hear recent interviews on "Iron Sharpens Iron" that we conducted with former Mormon High Priest and convert to Evangelical Christianity WILLIAM NORMAN GRIGG during which he specifically addressed "The Mountain Meadows Massacre", his own personal testimony of conversion from Mormonism to Christianity and a movie review of "September Dawn" (which originally aired on August 7th & 22nd & September 13th), you can look up the free, archived, downloadable mp3's here.
