Thomas McGovern: Jehovah's Witnesses: Their History & Doctrine (Encore Presentation)
.
MP3 Available Here
Thomas McGovern, founder of Dispel the Darkness Ministries , will address the theme: "Jehovah's Witnesses: Their History & Doctrine".
In Tom's own words:
"As I write, I am moved to great humility and gratitude before God, because He has delivered me from bondage to a cult. I spent nearly thirty years as a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses (JW). I was a follower of men and I have to confess that it was my own immaturity and lack of biblical discernment that allowed me to be deceived. I had, prior to my involvement with the Witnesses, placed faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. But I was young and stupid, and worse, I was not diligent in the Word. So, when the Witnesses came along, the things they said seemed very reasonable and I accepted their teachings and practices as – what seemed to me at the time – the correct way to spend my life in service to God...
"...Thinking back to that day at 13 years old or so when I gave my life to Jesus, I realize that He has been with me ever since. JW’s in general don’t have the relationship with Jesus that I always felt. I always knew that He was central – in the minds of most JW’s, he’s a minor character. But He was always there with me, by my side. I always felt His love, and I know He is the one who brought me to where I am now... (Read complete testimony here).
During this program we will also be promoting an upcoming event that our guest Tom McGovern will be participating in Friday, Saturday & Sunday, October 16 - 18: the Witnesses Now For Jesus Convention, to be held at the Blue Mountain Christian Retreat in New Ringgold, PA. For more details click here.

Kimberly Woodhouse: Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuropathy: One Family's Overwhelming Trials Met with Overcoming Joy
.
MP3 Available Here
Kimberly Woodhouse, author of "Woodhouse Family Welcome Home!", will address the theme: "Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuropathy: One Family's Overwhelming Trials Met with Overcoming Joy".
Kayla Woodhouse, the 12-year-old daughter of today's guest, has Hereditary Sensory Autonomic Neuropathy, also known as HSAN. This is an exceptionally rare nerve disorder where those suffering with it do not sweat or feel pain. There are only 25 people in the entire world who have been diagnosed with this condition! Because of HSAN, Kayla can only go outside to play after sundown. The Woodhouse family's poignant, heart-touching story of having a child with HSAN, which led to a mountain of hospital bills and the loss of their home—and their need for a home that would be safe for daughter Kayla—has put them in the public spotlight and kept them there. As a result of their overwhelming trials and desperate need of a home properly suited for Kayla's unique needs the Woodhouses were featured on the extremely popular television program "Extreme Makeover Home Edition" hosted by Ty Pennington. This broadcast with the Woodhouses was recently voted one of the show’s all-time best episodes! Millions of people have also experienced glimpses of their lives on Discovery’s "Mystery ER" and "The Montel Williams Show".
The theme that carries through "Woodhouse Family Welcome Home!" is James 1:2-4. We’re all a work in progress, and it can be “Pure Joy” to be a parent. But, how does joy evolve out of a potentially devastating reality? Kimberley’s candid stories of both failures and successes, and the ultimate resource—the Bible, will point readers in the right direction for establishing JOY in their homes.
Kimberley Woodhouse is a wife, mother, author, and musician with a quick wit and positive outlook despite difficult circumstances. A popular speaker, she's shared at more than 600 venues across the country. In addition to her non-fiction, she also writes romantic suspense and children's books. Kimberley lives, writes, and homeschools in Colorado with her husband and two children in their truly "extreme" home (see http://www.kimberleywoodhouse.com/).

Jason J. Stellman: Dual Citizens: Worship and Life Between the Already and the Not Yet
.
MP3 Available Here
Jason J. Stellman, pastor of Exile Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Woodinville, WA, will address the theme of his new book published by Reformation Trust, a literary arm of Ligonier Ministries, titled: "Dual Citizens: Worship and Life Between the Already and the Not Yet".
New covenant believers live between “the already” and “not yet,” a point in redemptive history between the partial and complete fulfillment of God’s promises. This means they are exiles and pilgrims in the divinely ordained overlap of the ages. As Rev. Jason J. Stellman argues in his book Dual Citizens: Worship and Life Between the Already and the Not Yet, this biblical motif shapes the identity of Christians at every turn and affects their every activity in both the sacred and secular realms. Stellman explores the Christian pilgrimage with deep biblical insight, humor, and relevance to our contemporary context, revealing how Christians are to think of themselves and their role this side of heaven.
Rev. Jason J. Stellman is a native of Orange County, California, and became a believer through the ministry of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa in 1989. After coming to understand and embrace Reformed theology, Pastor Stellman received his M.Div. degree from Westminster Seminary California, where he studied under such scholars as Dr. Michael Horton, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey, and Dr. D. G. Hart. After graduation, he was ordained by the Pacific Northwest Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America and called to plant Exile Presbyterian Church in the Seattle area. Rev. Stellman has written articles for Modern Reformation .
Jason is also a featured speaker at Ligonier Ministries' upcoming Seattle Conference & Cruise this month .

Sam Chapman: The No-Gossip Zone: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Healthy, High-Performing Work Environment
.
MP3 Available Here
Sam Chapman, author and popular seminar speaker, will address his book: "The No-Gossip Zone: A No-Nonsense Guide to a Healthy, High-Performing Work Environment."
Although our guest today is Jewish, and is not a Christian, he addresses a problem that is undoubtedly one of the world's most frequently committed sins: Gossip. Tragically, the violation of the Ninth Commandment could very well be the Number One sin in the church of Jesus Christ.
The No-Gossip Zone leads readers across the world through the process of ridding their lives of office gossip, including how to identify gossip, how to curb it, and how to create a work environment which hums with creativity and fun, as opposed to bitterness and restraint.
The No-Gossip Zone is intended for a wide audience of readers, from employees who have been in the workforce grind for generations, to college graduates making their first steps onto the corporate ladder. The lessons outlined in the book are both old and legendary (i.e. do unto others) and new and modern (i.e. take a nap at work to recharge your batteries).
Author Sam Chapman’s personal experiences with gossip in the office (which are detailed in the book) have made him very aware of the destructive and sweeping power of gossip. He has found a way to curb the corrosive chatter in his workplace, and in its in place, created an environment of fun, acceptance, and empowerment. Sharing his message with other managers and employers is part of his personal mission and his corporation’s mission.
Sam Chapman is CEO of Empower Public Relations, Chicago’s most accomplished PR firm. After implementing authentic communication techniques in his office, Sam saw his company grow exponentially and he decided to share his expertise with the world.
Before founding Empower Public Relations, Sam was president of a venture capital firm named Parson Capital. He also founded a consulting firm named Parson Group, which achieved Inc. Magazine's top rating as the fastest growing company in the nation in 2000 (#1 on “The Inc. 500”). The Company was sold to a British public company for $55 million in cash.
Sam’s knowledge and passion for public relations inspired him to open Empower Public Relations in 2006. With extensive expertise in television production, he knows what producers need for great segments. His far-reaching, individualized client campaigns focus on shared experiences, resulting in hundreds of millions of media impressions every year.

TurretinFan: Harold Camping's Achilles Heel: Why Family Radio's Date for the End of the World is Wrong
.
MP3 Available Here
"TurretinFan" (a pseudonym used in order to separate his secular career from his apologetics ministry), a contributor to Dr. James R. White's blog on the Alpha & Omega Ministries web site (http://www.aomin.org/), will reveal "Harold Camping's Achilles Heel: Why Family Radio's Date for the End of the World is Wrong!"
Most Christians in America know that Harold Camping, founder & president of Family Stations Inc. (Family Radio), once predicted Jesus Christ would return in 1994 and that the end of the world would soon follow. Since we have now reached September of 2009 that prediction was obviously false. Mr. Camping and his followers now proclaim May 21, 2011 as the date for the Rapture and October 21, 2011 as the date for the end of the world.
During a recent 4-day "Iron Sharpens Iron" radio debate Mr. Camping participated in with Dr. James R. White of Alpha & Omega Ministries, our guest today called in during the the call-in segment of the broadcast and asked one question of Mr. Camping. His question was: "What was the name of Moses' father?"
Why did "TurretinFan" ask the question?
He knew that Mr. Camping's answer would demonstrate that he was unwilling to submit to Scripture.
Today we will discover why the identity of Moses' father is a key to unraveling Mr. Camping's latest false eschatological prediction!
Here are some of TurretinFan's writings on the errors of Harold Camping:
Surprising Wisdom from Camping
Camping Jenga
Camping on the Atonement
How then Four Hundred, Thirty Years?
From Seventy to More than a Million?
Four Hundred Thirty Years from the Promise (A response to Fred Butler)
ISI Discussion Regarding Harold Camping

.
MP3 Available Here
You don't want to miss the magnificent theatrical portrayal of the great 18th century revival preacher John Wesley performed by our guest Roger Nelson on Saturday, September 19th, 7PM, at Freedom Chapel International Worship Center in Amityville, Long Island, NY (see details in the display ad at the top of this page). Today we will be discussing this one-man play, and Roger's ministry, "The Friends of John Wesley & Saint Patrick" (see www.a1manplay.com).
Roger Nelson is a Staley Distinguished Christian Scholar, whose presentations have enriched over 1,600 audiences in 32 countries. Among many honors and awards, Roger has received the International Christian Visual Media's Crown Award for Best Actor! Roger has performed in many notable places, including the Stratford-Upon-Avon Festival in England, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, the Stratford Festival Theatre in Canada, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Wesley's Chapel in London. Roger is a member of The New York Actors Equity Association. He has appeared off-Broadway, in summer stock, films, and national television commercials. His credits include principal roles in such plays as Butterflies Are Free, Chapter Two, Forty Carats, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, and The Three Sisters. He is a native of Winnetka, Illinois and a graduate of the University of Colorado. Roger holds a Masters Degree from Fairleigh Dickenson University, where he also taught mathematics. For three years he served as a U.S.Army officer. His life's ambition is to make Christ known through the saints of the past!
"Roger Nelson is incredible in giving a wonderful presentation of the life of John Wesley. It is humorous and full of the good news of the Gospel. I can promise you this, there is not a boring moment."
--- Dr. O.S. Hawkins, Former Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church, Dallas, TX
"A tour de force!"
--- Pat Boone, Singer/Actor
"An intriguing portrait of an extraordinary man!"
--- Los Angeles Times
"Mr. Nelson's subtle portrayal brings out Wesley's character. He avoids the temptation of presenting Wesley as being too good to be true by making the genial gentleman able to laugh at himself."
--- Katy Best, The Stage and Television Today - London, England
"When Roger Nelson is dressed in 18th-century garb, he looks exactly the way Mr. Wesley looked as seen from his portraits. His knowledge of Mr. Wesley is remarkable, and he holds his audience spellbound. I have never seen anything done any better, and I have seen many dramatic presentations, some by some of the best actors in Great Britain and the United States. Really his performance is worth an audition in the White House."
--- The late Bishop William R. Cannon, United Methodist Church
"Roger Nelson's presentation, The Man From Aldersgate, is as fine a means of communicating the reality of Christ's life as we have ever had at our church. I commend his gifted ministry to all."
--- Rev. Jack Hayford, Founding Pastor, Church on the Way, Van Nuys, CA
"When Roger Nelson steps forward and begins his portrayal of the founder of Methodism, he is John Wesley."
--- Carol R. Thiessen, Christianity Today

Thomas McGovern: Jehovah's Witnesses: Their History & Doctrine
.

Sarah Zacharias Davis: The Friends We Keep: A Woman's Quest for the Soul of Friendship
.
MP3 Available Here
Sarah Zacharias Davis, the daughter of best-selling author Ravi Zacharias, will address the theme of her new book "The Friends We Keep: A Woman's Quest for the Soul of Friendship".
Co-hosting today's broadcast are Christian authors Latayne C. Scott and Nancy Almodovar .
Sarah Zacharias Davis is a Senior Advancement Officer at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, having joined the university after working as vice president of marketing and development for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries , and in strategic marketing for CNN. Sarah is also the author of the critically-acclaimed "Confessions From an Honest Housewife" and "Transparent", in addition to the book we are discussing today.
During a particularly painful time in her life, Sarah Zacharias Davis learned how delightful–and wounding–women can be in friendship. She saw how some friendships end badly, others die slow deaths, and how a chance acquaintance can become that enduring friend you need.
"The Friends We Keep" is Sarah’s thoughtful account of her own story and the stories of other women about navigating friendship. Her revealing discoveries tackle the questions every woman asks:
• Why do we long so for women friends?
• Do we need friends like we need air or food or water?
• What causes cattiness, competition, and co-dependency in too many friendships?
• Why do some friendships last forever and others only a season?
• How do I foster friendship?
• When is it time to let a friend go, and how do I do so?
Sarah explores these questions and more with personal stories, cultural references and history, faith, and grace. In the process, she delivers wisdom for navigating the challenges, mysteries, and delights of friendship: why we need friendships with other women, what it means to be safe in relationship, and how to embrace what a friend has to offer, whether meager or generous.
“Friendships take years to cultivate yet can be lost in a matter of minutes. Sarah Zacharias Davis deftly explores the complex terrain of that human bond, explaining why so many of us long to be known and how important it is cultivate at least a few faithful people who will stand beside us the rest of our lives.” –Julia Duin, religion editor for The Washington Times and author of Quitting Church: Why the Faithful are Fleeing and What to Do About It
“Sarah’s words could not come at a better time. Too many of us have allowed our female friendships to slip on the priority scale and this book is the perfect reminder of the essential, beautifully ordained connection between women. Reading and relishing her words, I recalled with rich nostalgia the formative friendships of my childhood and emerged from the pages with a fresh perspective and heightened appreciation for the special women in my life today. This book reads like the voice of a friend, intimate and true.”–Kristin Armstrong, contributing editor for Runner’s World magazine and author of four books, including Happily Ever After: Walking with Peace and Courage Through a Year of Divorce and Work in Progress: An Unfinished Woman’s Guide to Grace
“The Friends We Keep is a true and tender testimony to the joys and struggles we women experience in our friendships with one another. As I read I found myself nodding in agreement, and sometimes tearing up in remembrance. We don’t always get it right, but we need each other–and there is deep satisfaction to be found in the relationships we forge. I loved Sarah’s book and recommend it to anyone who seeks to know (or find) her truest friends." –Leigh McLeroy, author of The Beautiful Ache and Treasured

Irene Spencer: Cult Insanity: A Memoir of Polygamy, Prophets & Blood Atonement
.
MP3 Available Here
Irene Spencer, who was born into a 4th generation Mormon Fundamentalist family, married at 16 years of age to her brother-in-law, shared her husband with 9 other wives and mothered 14 of her husband's 58 children will address her latest riveting, shocking and true book: "Cult Insanity: A Memoir of Polygamy, Prophets & Blood Atonement".
Life for Irene Spencer was a series of devastating disappointments and hardships. Irene's first book, Shattered Dreams: My Life as a Polygamist's Wife, which made the New York Times Best Seller List, is the staggering chronicle of her struggle to provide for her children in abject poverty and feelings of abandonment each time her husband left to be with one of his other wives. Irene was raised to believe polygamy was the way of life necessary for her ticket to heaven. The hard knocks of her environment were just the beginning of Irene's shocking tale.
CULT INSANITY takes readers into her story to uncover the outrageous behavior of her brother-in-law Ervil - a self-proclaimed prophet who determined he was called to set the house of God in order - and how he terrorized their colony. Claiming to be God's avenger and to have a license to kill in the name of God, Ervil ordered the murders of friends and family members, eliminating all those who challenged his authority. CULT INSANITY is a riveting, terrifying memoir of polygamist life under the tyranny of a madman.
Today Irene is a born again believer in Jesus Christ. 12 of the 14 children she gave birth to are still living today. Her first baby, Leah, died at birth. Daughter Sandra died in 2000 of breast cancer. She currently has 119 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren, with more of both expected. There are approximately 40,000 to 60,000 practicing polygamists today in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
You can hear a previous "Iron Sharpens Iron" interview with Irene on her first book "Shattered Dreams" by clicking here.

Mark Grimaldi: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
.
MP3 Available Here
Marc Grimaldi, one of the pastors of Grace Reformed Baptist Church of Long Island, located in Merrick, NY will address the theme: "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: One Pastor's Struggle With O.C.D."
The television comedy series "Monk" starring very gifted actor Tony Shalhoub is bringing the subject of "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder" to the attention of a rapidly growing segment of the population. The USA Network describes the character of Adrian Monk as "a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, until the tragic murder of his beloved wife, Trudy, left him shattered and wracked with phobias, obsessions and compulsions. His extreme case of obsessive-compulsive disorder cost him his job, and for a time rendered him virtually unable to function...
"With the help of therapy and the support of his loyal friends and devoted personal assistant, Monk's condition has improved, but his many fears – including germs, heights, crowds, and even milk – pose daily challenges for Monk and the people around him...
"Yet despite his condition, Monk remains a brilliant detective. Though his approach to homicide investigation is unconventional, Monk's vast intelligence, gift for crime scene analysis, and legendary powers of observation have earned him a reputation as one of the best detectives in San Francisco, if not the world..."
While our guest today, Marc Grimaldi, joins everyone viewing the program with a hearty laugh over Mr. Shalhoub's very humorous portrayal of a detective with an extreme case of O.C.D., Marc also knows all too well the pain and anguish one can experience when suffering from this disorder, due to the fact that he has personally struggled with it.
Psychology text books define O.C.D. as “a mental disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce anxiety, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety, or by combinations of such thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions).” Most Christian Counselors would agree with that definition but there is debate as to whether or not it is truly a “mental/physical disorder”, a “sin issue” or a combination of both.
Having personally lived with this difficult “thorn” for several years and at various levels of escala tion, Marc believes it is both a “sin issue” and a “physical disorder.” It could be that the “sin issue” which centers upon a proneness toward anxiety and a desire for control causes the “physical disorder” but Marc believes (from firsthand experience) that there are certain physical challenges and/or mental difficulties that those who have O.C.D. are prone to, which makes them more susceptible to failing to deal properly with the normal stresses and anxieties of life that others can often simply blow off. At the least, the “physical element” plays a significant role in escalating the O.C.D. into its severest state (what Marc calls the “vicious cycle”), which he will address during the broadcast.

Ken Wells: Planting Sovereign Grace Churches in Italy
.
MP3 Available Here
Ken Wells, a church planter working with SEE: Saints Equipped to Evangelize , will address the theme: "Planting Sovereign Grace Churches in Italy".
Ken Wells was born and raised in a Roman Catholic home in Brooklyn, NY, and was saved by Christ's grace and mercy in 1975 at the age of 17 through the ministry of the First Evangelical Free Church in that city. He has been married for 26 years to RuthAnn, who labors with him as a missionary and church planter in Italy. They have been blessed with 6 children (3 boys, 3 girls).
From 1992 to 1995 Ken served as an Elder of the First Evangelical Free Church in Brooklyn. He graduated Refromed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida in 2000 with a Master of Divinity degree. He then served as Associate Pastor of Orlando Grace Church from 2000 to 2002. Although English and Irish in ethnicity, Ken developed a burden for souls in Italy. In 2003 he joined SEE, and in 2005 he and his family moved to Italy, and began ministry as a church planter.
Today Ken will discuss the unique challenges faced when laboring to evangelize the Gospel of Free and Sovereign Grace and to plant Sovereign Grace-believing churches in Italy. He will also contrast planting American churches in Italy with planting Italian churches in Italy. Although Ken sees great value in the former in order to meet the needs of tourists, transients and international transplants in Italy, the latter is Ken's goal and mission with SEE.
Ken is currently on a speaking tour in the New York Metropolitan area before returning to Italy.

Thomas McGovern: Testimony of a Former Jehovah's Witness
.
MP3 Available Here
Thomas McGovern, founder of Dispel the Darkness Ministries , will address his "Testimony of a Former Jehovah's Witness".
Gary Habermas: Did The Resurrection Happen?
.
MP3 Available Here
Gary R. Habermas, (Ph.D., Michigan State University), Distinguished Research Professor and chair of the department of philosophy and theology at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia (see www.liberty.edu), will address the theme: "Did the Resurrection Happen?".
In 2004 philosopher Antony Flew, one of the world's most prominent atheists, publicly acknowledged that he had become persuaded of the existence of God. Not long before that, in 2003, Flew and Christian philosopher Gary Habermas debated at a Veritas Forum at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Habermas, perhaps the world's leading expert on the historicity of the resurrection of Jesus, made the case for rational belief on the basis of the reliability of the evidence. Flew argued for alternative understandings of the evidence presented.
For two-and-a-half decades Flew and Habermas have been in friendly dialogue about the plausibility of the resurrection and the existence of God. The book, "Did the Resurrection Happen?", edited by David J. Baggett, presents the full content of their third and final debate, as well as transcripts of the Q & A session with the audience afterward. Also included are a 2004 conversation between Habermas and Flew shortly after Flew's much-publicized change of position, as well as editor David Baggett's assessment and analysis of the full history of Habermas and Flew's interactions.
Dr. Habermas is the author, coauthor or editor of twenty-seven books including Resurrected?: An Atheist & Theist Dialogue , The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus , The Risen Jesus & Future Hope , The Resurrection: Heart of New Testament Doctrine and The Resurrection: Heart of the Christian Life.
Co-hosting this broadcast is Pastor Ron Glass of Wading River Baptist Church in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY, who has done his own thorough research on the writings of contemporary Atheists and Agnostics.
